Motivation

“Don’t stop trying just because you’ve hit a wall. Progress is progress no matter how small.”

It’s about seven months past the day we all said we were going to stick to our New Year’s resolutions. According to statisticbrain.com 92% of us have already gone back to our pre-resolution ways. Don’t’ get discouraged; a month’s worth of slip-ups isn’t worth ruining a lifetime of achievement! It may take a little more than a New Year’s resolution to motivate you, check out these fun and creative ideas that will give you the extra boost you need to get back on track.

For the 8% of you out there who kept your resolutions, Congrats! These tips will help you stay motivated to maintain that healthy life you worked so hard for.

Weight Loss Jars

Find two clear containers like a fishbowl or vase (you can get as creative as you want with this), label one of the containers “pounds to go” and the other “pounds lost”. Fill the “pounds to go” container with marbles amounting to the number of pounds you want to lose. If you lose a pound move it over to the “pounds lost container”. It’s so simple yet so rewarding! Don’t throw them out once you have reached the bottom. Keep them around to remind yourself of what you have accomplished and prevent yourself from filling back up the “pounds to go” container.

Food Journal

There is a reason almost every physician, nutritionist and personal trainer will tell you that keeping a food journal is the first step to a healthy diet. Writing in a journal makes us conscious of what we are putting in our mouths and how often. It also allows us to see trends in our eating habits, making it easier to determine what needs to be cut out of our diets. Mindlessly munching on snacks at work, sipping down a sugary soda, or regularly eating past eight o’clock at night could be the hidden culprit keeping you from losing weight.

Writing down every last detail can be tedious, but there are several great ways to making the process fun. Try getting a variety of stickers that have different meanings which you would assign. Such as a “sad face” could be placed on a day that you couldn’t resist that large slice of chocolate cake, but a “happy face” could indicate that you had a healthy intake that day. Find whatever type of trick that works best for you!

#TreatYourself

Maybe it’s getting a facial once you’ve lost your first five pounds or a massage once you’ve lost 15. Setting goals smaller are easier to obtain and will keep you motivated to move on to the next. Once you have reached a goal, treat yourself! You deserve it!
